Let me start by saying, remember my cute historic downtown home? Well, the whole neighborhood is having a big yard sale this weekend and that's where I got a lot of this stuff. It made me kind of sad, though. I miss living there, but I may carry on about that more in another post!
First of all, my favorite piece! I walked up to a house and the wife told me that if I bought this chair for $30, she'd throw in her husband who was sitting in it. I offered $20 and told her to keep her husband as I am not quite ready for one of those. A deal was made and I now have this huge comfy chair. It's not actually white, more of a cream color, but I LOVE it. I do not have a sofa, currently, and was almost on the verge of buying a really ugly one out of desperation. Not only will I be able to use this chair no matter what my decor, I can use it in place of a sofa for a few weeks until I find a sofa I really like (and please excuse picture quality):
At the same place, I bought this picture for $5.00. It's really big and will hang in my living room - I'm doing green/black/natural colors with maybe some splashes of red in there and it seems like I'm finding so many perfect items for it.
The other piece of furniture I bought was also $20 and it definitely needs some work! I have a ton of books and have been searching desperately for ways to store them without packing them up. I've seen so many blah bookcases, but when I ran across this, I had to have it! It's pretty old and handmade and just really unique looking. The door need new hinges and don't worry, I'm definitely repainting it another color - black or dark dark green.
The big sliding glass door in my bedroom was in desperate need of curtains and I think I've mentioned, I'm doing sort of a red, white, and mostly blue nautical thing in there. I don't know that I love these curtains but they were $8.00 for enough to fit that door and the window that's in there, and they will work without looking awful until I find something else...or who knows, I may end up liking them. This is what they look like:
Just a few other odds and ends I got:
These metal candle holders were $1.00

I got these three picture frames for $3.00 total:
I bought this old (or made to look old) tin sign for 50 cents:
This shower curtain was $4.00 - not sure if I'm going to use it or not, yet. My last bathroom was blue and white, but I thought this was pretty.
So, I thought I did pretty well. I'd like to have the house decorated by August/September. I plan to be there two years while I finish my teaching certification, unless I get a great job somewhere else or somehow can afford the $350,000 house up the street from my old one!
I also bought several books for myself, yesterday, but figured I'd spare you the list. I bought some really pretty curtains but those were retail, not "bargain" and I have my eye on these two really pretty rugs at Old Time Pottery, but they are $80, so that might not happen until my next pay day! I guess shopping can be fun after all!
